How to Change Your Default Launcher (TouchWiz) and Make the Changes Last

Hi all, I recently just got a new phone (Samsung Galaxy S4) and if you're like me, you would want to change the default launcher which is TouchWiz to something more advanced like LauncherPro.

I used LauncherPro on my S2 before and it meet all my needs, so I thought of installing it on my new phone. But after running it for a few minutes, it was buggy and the app crashed several times. Checking the app on Google Play, I was shocked to find that the app was last updated on March 2011, which means that it was abandoned by its developer. Take note guys, most of the time you don't want to run app that haven't receive frequent updates, especially if you encountered problems with the current version of the app.

So I switched over to Nova Launcher, which have been running smoothly on my Nexus 7. But it won't stay as the default launcher. It will switched back to TouchWiz whenever I pressed the 'Home' button. Luckily, I found the solution and I'm going to share them in this post.

Happy New Year 2015!

Happy New Year 2015!

Hi everyone! Just writing to let you all know that I'm still around, although a bit occupied with other commitments in life.

2014 has been a great year and I believe 2015 will be an even greater year, with more opportunities to grow. And, of course more blog posts to share, that we may grow together. Hopefully in the next few days, I will have a post ready on 'How To Increase Your Productivity In Doing Mundane Tasks On Your PC' to kick-start the new year.

In the meantime, the best way to catch up on what I'm up to is to follow me on Google Plus:

How to Fix The “Insufficient Storage Available” Issue [Android]

On Android phones, have you ever, while installing a new app or updating an existing one, encounter the error message:
Insufficient Storage Available
even though you have plenty of device memory space? I have, previously, and it happened to one of my friend who have the same Android phone as me, a Samsung Galaxy S2. But no longer am I plagued by the issue and I will share how I fix the problem without rooting my phone.

Initially, I tried to uninstall some apps which I no longer use in a long time, or move them to the SD card. That solution did not last long, needless to say. Next, I tried App Cache cleaner. However, the problem still persist. However, one day I found the solution on the internet and it worked.

A Simple Way To Fix Kindle's "Invalid Item" Error [Android]

A while ago, my Kindle for Android app notified me with the message
'Invalid item - please remove from your device and download again'
when I tried to open a book in my Kindle library. I tried updating to the latest version, later to find that I'd the latest version installed. Next, just like everyone else these days, I googled around and discovered that others are in the same boat as me. The solution offered by Amazon Kindle was tedious (deregister device, uninstall Kindle app, reinstall, re-register device). There's no way I would like to do all those steps and re-download all my books, if I have to.

Fortunately, I happened to find a way to fix it (which I am going to share in this post) before I go through all the hassle offered by Amazon's solution. It will only take less than one minute of your time to do it. I promise.

You Don't Have to Pay For Antivirus on Windows

About 2 weeks ago, my antivirus subscription (Kaspersky) of 3 years expired. It has served me well over these past years of keeping viruses or malwares out of my Windows system. Then came the question:

Should I, or should I not, continue with the subscription?

After some thoughts, I decided to discontinue renewing my Kaspersky antivirus license and here's why.

Upgraded My SGS2 to ICS!

Downloading ICSJust this afternoon, out of curiosity, I checked if there is any software update available for my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2) and surprisingly, there is. So I choose, as any eager technology enthusiast would, to update!

Be warn that the update itself is over 200+ MB, so you best do it over your own wi-fi than 3G. It takes around 19 minutes for me to download the updates. More or less, depending on your internet connection speed.

It is also equally important that you backup all your important files on your phone to your pc or dropbox before updating.

In case you are wondering, I am with Vodafone Australia. Some other parts of the world probably already have Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) available as a software update. If you have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and are still running Gingerbread, Android 2.3.5, you can try to check your phone if there's any updates available.

In this blog post, I am going to show you how you can upgrade your S2 to ICS and some of my initial thoughts about ICS.

It was abnormally unresponsive.

What is going on? I suspected that something mischievous is going on. So, I put on the detective hat *not literally* and began an inquiry...

Instagram picture 1
Transformed by Instagram
Android smartphone users have been left out for some time now if they want to take amazing photos, as compared to their iPhone peers. Personally, I had been using Picplz to take and edit photos on my Galaxy S2, but nothing can be compared to Instagram.

No doubt about it. It is simply the best tool out there for taking beautiful photos. It is FREE too. I had been wishing for it to be available on the Android market (it's Google Play now) for ages. Finally, today is the day!

For those of you who is unfamiliar with Instagram, I am going to show you what it is in this post and the amazing things you can do with it.

How to Read Mobile-Unfriendly Webpages On Your Android Phone Effortlessly

I commute on public transport on a regular basis and will usually redeem my time by reading articles online with my Galaxy S2. However, some of these websites are not mobile-friendly. They are not optimised for mobile users. In the past, when I came across one of them, I would zoom-in on the page until I find the text to the size of my liking. Trying to get the block of texts to fit nicely with my phone's screen was indeed a tedious task. How many of you have the same experience?

Then, one day I accidentally discover this tip that I am about to share and it has since changed my experience of reading articles online with my phone. With just a blink, I can have texts formatted nicely for me to read. I can say that I now enjoy fulfilling my learning addictions very much on my phone.

How To Take Screenshot on Samsung Galaxy S2 with 100% Accuracy (pre-ICS)

Why another tutorial on taking screenshots on Samsung Galaxy S2?
I know, I know. You are probably asking that question right now.

There is a ton of tutorials about this out there on the internet, so why another tutorial?
The problem is, they are not comprehensive enough. They failed to address the problems that may arise when applying these steps, which I'm going to show in detail. Time to capture screenshots like a ninja master with 100% precision execution.

No rooting or additional apps required. Just a stock phone will do.

Why Is Flash Player Slow On My PC?

The Problem:
A few days ago, I just reformatted my PC and performed a clean installation of Vista (with SP1). Then, I opened Google Chrome and went on to Facebook. As one of my daily habit, I played one of the game on it. All is well until I encountered Flash in the game. It was an awfully long wait. Everything with Flash on it just ran very slow. Hello Google Chrome, what's wrong with your Flash player?

The Inquiry:
Initially, I thought that it was because I had too many programs opened all at the same time. Plus, my laptop was 3+ years old. So, I closed some of them but that did not fix the problem. It was still slow. Next, I tried it with Firefox & voilà...

Migrating contacts from Windows Mobile 6 to Android

Recently, I just got myself a new Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S2). I was trying to key in all my contacts into my new phone and the process proved to be tedious after attempting to manually enter just a few contacts. Imagine I had 100+ contacts. It will just take too long for me to complete the task.

Hello Blogger

Hi all,

It's JH Kueh here, better known as Ocy everywhere else on the net.

This blog will be my re-attempt to blog basically. As I had personally adopted Zig Ziglar's philosophy that "You can get what you want in life, if you will just help enough other people get what they want", I'll be journalling about IT technical problems that I face & the solutions that I had personally applied successfully.

Furthermore, I would be especially interested to hear from you, if I have managed to help solve your problems through this blog. It will bring me great joy, as I hope it will, to you :)

Until then, stay tuned.
